I'm in a similar situation and hope that we can agree to agree and/or disagree about whether or not ballet is a sport.

[/ QUOTE ]

I consider dancing a sport, yes. It may not be an obvious competition, but it is an athletic endeavor where people are competing for a reward against eachother (which is what a sport is imo). In the case of ballet/wrestling, the reward isnt a trophy, but rather a chance to perform (and to some extent you could even say money).

sport /spɔrt, spoʊrt/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[spawrt, spohrt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun
1. an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

whether we agree to disagree, or agree, its not a major deal, and not the point fo the thread though imo.

no one in their right mind considers it a sport

meh, highly highly debatable. is gymnastics not a sport too?

and lol, I dont know how but Im sure this just boils down to money, or congressmen making themselves look good.

[/ QUOTE ]

Professional wrestling would be a sport if it weren't fixed. Atleast in gymnastics, these are honest competitions.

Please read the article carefully. Congress isn't investigating WWE because it is a "sport", so the sport vs. entertainment debate is pointless. Rather, the argument for investigating sports leagues and WWE is the impact on children, who see athletes and/or entertainers as role models.

[ QUOTE ]
"The tragic deaths of World Wrestling Entertainment star Chris Benoit and his family have raised questions about reports of widespread use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs by professional wrestlers," the congressmen wrote.

"These allegations -- which include first-hand reports of steroid use by prominent former wrestlers -- have swirled around the WWE for over a decade. Investigations by journalists have described a culture of performance-enhancing drug use in professional wrestling, high fatality rates among young professional wrestlers, and an inability or unwillingness of WWE to address these problems."

The letter from Waxman and Davis described WWE wrestlers as "multimedia stars that have an influence on the behavior and attitudes of the nation's youth."

"WWE has a responsibility to do everything possible to eliminate the use of performance-enhancing drugs -- or the perception of such use -- by its wrestlers."

Congress imposing on the WWE and even the MLB has nothing to do with the integrity of those forms of entertainment or competition. It's about facilitating illegal drug abuse on an influential stage.

Yeah, and somehow the NFL just goes quietly under the radar.

But it's not.

you dont think wrestling is a sport? by a couple dictionary definitions I think it is personally. The wrestlers may not be competing against eachother, but they are definetly competing against themselves which makes it a sport in my book.

[/ QUOTE ]

Then you would consider ballet a sport?
