Shoving the river is not good. MP does not seem retarded and most likely has either a draw or a marginal hand. Marginal hand realizes all the draws got there, he's beating nothing - he folds. Draws are happy since we just gave them full value and they happily call.
Betting a small/moderate amount gets max value from marginal hands, and allows you to get away if he shoves, since that's hand with showdown value turned into a bluff just about never without some additional read. |

[/ QUOTE ] Well if you end up getting 7:1 (or whatever) and you don't think you're good more than 12.5% of the time, then it's still a fold. In this spot against this opponent, I don't see him calling down here and then shoving a bet that gets called almost always with anything we beat. If you disagree then betting small is still better than shoving for reasons of extracting value from marginal hands. Only difference being you'd call the shove. |
