Re: Give me a situation when you min-raise...
when you're playing against a straight forward opponent and you're either milking a tiny bit of value or bluffing
as in: Poker Stars - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.50/$1 Blinds - 4 Players - (LegoPoker HH Converter) SB: $97.50 keikiwai (BB): $179.25 UTG: $96.35 BTN: $116.65 Preflop: keikiwai is dealt 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 Players) I had just pfrred, and I didn't think it was the right time to do it. Villain is straight forward, and I figured it may be worth a call if I get jiggy. UTG folds, BTN raises to $4.00, SB folds, keikiwai calls $3.00 Flop: ($8.50) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players) keikiwai checks, BTN bets $7.00, keikiwai raises to $14.00, BTN folds Pot Size: $29.50 ($1.10 Rake) i know he usually folds, and if he doesn't, i'm beat... well i'm obv. beat no matter what |

Re: Give me a situation when you min-raise...
JBoosted on cardrunners min raises a bit (200NL from memory). He did it with a flopped second nut flush in a multiway limped pot in the SB (got coolered with a flopped nutflush obv).
Another time: Flopped 2 pair, turned a full house and check min-raised to induce an all in with the paired board. Both times I cringed. Min raising is a limit/tournament play. Only time I would do it is if im playing a regular and im trying to mix things up a bit. |

Re: Give me a situation when you min-raise...
what I find hilarious about minraises is that they are so much more respected in live cash games.. I'd be more interested to know why this is..

Re: Give me a situation when you min-raise...
When stack sizes are right, miniraises let you ask questions that your opponent has to answer with his whole stack.
For instance, 100bb stacks, you raise 4BB w/ 88, and call a 13BB re-raise from the SB. The pot is roughly 26BB and the flop comes down Q94r. If SB leads for 20BB, a miniraise basically asks villain if he wants to put his whole stack in, but lets you get away easily if he does. I'm not saying that's necessarily a great time to do it, but its demonstrative of the type of question you can ask of a villain if stacks are right. I think it can be a strong move so long as you are adept at balancing very strong hands as well as bluffs. |

Re: Give me a situation when you min-raise...
Here is a place I tried it today against a 60/5/2 loose/bad, fish. His riverbet looked alot like a block to me and I also had noticed he donked a tonne postflop with draws AND made hands. I figured that he would always call with worse sets and 2pairs. Or maybe I was just tilt-spewing? (I'm definitely guilty of that today)
Blinds: $1/$2 4 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: $92.10 Button: $54.95 SB: $416.30 Hero: $307.00 Pre-flop: (4 players) Hero is BB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2 folds, SB calls, Hero raises to $8, SB calls. Flop: 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ($16, 2 players) SB checks, Hero bets $18, SB calls. Turn: 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($52, 2 players) SB checks, Hero checks. River: 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($52, 2 players) SB bets $20, Hero raises to $40, SB calls. Results: Final pot: $132 |
