I like Scottrade. 7$ for stock trades and only 17$ for mutual funds.

I used to have an Ameritrade account, and they started charging 50$ for mutual fund trades, and then on top of it all they charged me 50$ to roll over the account to Scottrade... but w/e... (just stay clear of AMTD)

I use unique e-mail addresses for all of my online accounts so I can track down any of them who are distributing my e-mail address. I just caught Zecco in this -- they apparently are giving my e-mail to spammers and have lost my business forever.

1 vote here for Scottrade.

I've read that Bank of America offers 30 free trades per month if you have over $25k with them, but I've never actually used them. This was hyped pretty heavily a few months back.

Bank of America's deal is pretty bad. The 25k must be in checking, savings, or CDs. Bank of America offers horrible interest rates.

Partly true, mostly false. Yes their interest rates are low, no the funds need not be in only the accounts you specified. You can have a minimal amount in an Advantage checking account and the rest in your Investment account. Also I have one of their 9 month risk free CD's that I believe is currently yielding 4.65% yet is completly liquid with zero early withdrawal penalties as long as the funds are kept within the BOA system which includes my brokerage account.

Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect time frame wise if I were to start setting up an account with Scottrade right now?

How long before I would be able to make my first trade.. 24hrs? 3 days? 2 weeks? Thanks for any help!
