Hypothetical - Sacrificing yourself to save others

i could see myself volunteering indirectly by telling the gunman to go [censored] himself or doing something else equally irrational. its hard to explain but i have a bit of a problem with authority and with people who go outside the bounds of what i think is moral/just. so if i am challenged by people trying to unjustly exercise dominion over me, i am really likely to freak out in general (ie going apeshit at customer support on sportsbetting sites after they cancel props i bet on because the lines were 'bad'). this is a bit extreme example though so i really don't know what i would actually do, i don't think i have a particularly strong survival instinct though.

Like that guy at Virginia Tech? The Holocaust survivor who gave his life for the students? He wasn't suicidal though I don't think so he deserves a lot of credit.
