I never understood Ellen's appeal for a long time. She finally won me over with her landmark performance in "Finding Nemo" (no kidding, it was the greatest performance by a voice actor in a cartoon I've ever seen).

I mean, I don't watch her show or anything, but if it comes on while I'm in a waiting room, I don't cringe or anything (like I used to).

I've never understood how Gwyneth Paltrow became a massive movie star.

I do NOT think she is particularly pretty. She has a weird, ungainly body (it looks like her arms and legs were stuck on backwards), and her "acting" could be done by a mannequin, or a dead fish.

I know her dad was a bigwig, so maybe she got a jumpstart through nepotism and it snowballed, or something. I just don't get it.

You're not the only one. I don't get it either.

I thought she was fine in Finding Nemo, but wonder why you were blown away by her. There's any number of cartoons voiced by huge talents. Paul Lynde, Mel Blanc, Billy West, the gal who did Rocky and Bullwinkle and lots of other characters, etc. If you are talking long form animation, Sher Khan the tiger in The Jungle Book was incredibly great.

When you say "leading lady" are you talking the actress with the lead role or are you talking the main love interest?

[/ QUOTE ]

conventional leading lady and love interest. Just because Kathy Bates was the star of Misery it doesn't make her a "Leading Lady."

hmmm...she gave a great performance in Flesh and Bone...and I'd have to say she's pretty darn talented....she is an odd-looking thing, though, so good choice

Obviously you've never seen Square Pegs.

Also, I don't think Ellen DeGeneres qualifies as a 'leading lady.' She's only been the female lead in one movie that I know of, "Mr. Wrong." It was okay but she demonstrated clearly that she wasn't leading lady material. I don't think Finding Nemo counts, even though she was awesome as Dorie.

Gwyneth Paltrow: I always think how she's not as hot as her mom whenever I see her.

Joan Crawford: For nude pics, check out the book 'Hollywood Babylon II' by Kenneth Anger.

Paltrow can go readily go from okay to gorgeous and stop anywhere in between.
