At the time I was into this stuff, in 1994-6 when I was aged 16-18, I was also a big fan of Consolidated, and also Moby - leftwing extremists!

Likewise, I picked and chose what songs I liked and which bits of their politics I agreed with and which bits were stupid/wrong.

The lyrics seem pretty terrible to me.

[/ QUOTE ]

Really? Spring is in the Air, in particular, is great.

Okay, one last lyric - again, some nasty lines at the end, but it's a play on "I'm going to wash that man right out of my hair":

That Skirt's Too Short for a Funeral, Honey

It's so hard to see this
as anything but an end.
It's so hard to say, "Goodbye lover,
Hello friend..."
We didn't stand the test
of the sorrow that brought us together
and though part of me wishes you the best
part of me will hate you forever.

'Cause I took you literally
when you told me to go to Hell.
You know, sometimes I really have to
smile in spite of myself.
You were so devoted to the end
or so you told our friends.
Yeah, dutiful Saint Judy
you're such a [censored] martyr for your men...

every single one of them.

Nothing will close the schism
you dug between our lives.
But, hey, you're still got your looks and your feminism...
Choke on them tonight!

Oh well, they come and they go.
Is it just the little thing I miss?
Like, this one wiggled it that way
that one wiggled it this?

I'm gonna rape that girl right out of my hair!
I'm gonna rape that girl right out of my hair!
I'm gonna rape that girl right out of my hair!
I'm gonna rape that girl right out of my hair!

(I bled to death that night
before the hospital could phone her.
I had a rare blood type
they couldn't find a donor...)

I think I'd prefer digging out my eyes with a spoon to opening this thread again.

and if you don't agree with their politics, you shouldn't be listening to their music.

I dont agree with this statement. To use a general example, I dont agree with gun violence and beating up women but I still listen to some rap. Just because I like how it sounds doesn't mean I model myself after those who have written it.

This will be my favorite Nazi band once they are 18. I've never heard a note of their music before, but I bet they are awesome.

I think you should post the same topic twice to double the number of people who think this is a stupid thread. They are bad people, and if you don't agree with their politics, you shouldn't be listening to their music.

[/ QUOTE ]

I dont agree with this at all. If I,as a consumer, like the way something sounds then there's no problem with me buying it. Hell, maybe I don't support the message of rappers who like slappin' hoes up (don't get me wrong I do) but I still like the song, then that's completely up to me and by no means is it "wrong" to listen to it. It's pretty far fetched that a Neo-Nazi band would sound good considering their music without fail sounds heinous, but if that happened we'd have something to talk about.

edit:some people beat me to it, oh well.

B.I.G.'s Ready to Die is one of my favourite albums.
Gimme the Loot is one of my favourite ever rap songs. Yet I'm not advocating drive-bys or cop-killing...
