Speaking of, RR, you have any idea what surviellance generally pays? I've got like 5 games and just want to work something more laid back on the weekends. Do they get security guard money or how does that work?

[/ QUOTE ]

I know one guy who is the "corporate head of surveillance" for one of the local (CO) casinos who makes low $40's. Yeah, he flies around the country on the company's dime and stuff all the time, but $40G's? Yeeeesh. Maybe other companies pay more....? Being one of the guys staring at the monitors all night can't pay very well.

They do get to wear jeans and not shave for a week.

So basicly I just need to go to Tunica and ask for a job? For some reason there is always little info on this subject.

[/ QUOTE ]

Let me quote from the very first reply in this thread...

[ QUOTE ]
Every card room is different. The best way to find out how to get hired at a particular place is to call them up and ask how to get hired there. Yet, for some reason, people fight me when I suggest this.

[/ QUOTE ]

For the purposes of this discussion, I'm going to consider "willfully ignoring" to be "fighting". You seem to be displaying some polarized thinking, which will help you fit right into the dysfunction of a poker room. Since nobody gave you specific information, you "logically" jump to "I guess I have to go there and ask for a job."

Right now, in the past few minutes, I used this amazing little machine in front of me to find the phone number for the Horseshoe. I then called up and got to the operator, but I didn't stop there... this part is key, so pay attention: I asked for the poker room. When I got someone from there on the horn, I expressed interest in becoming a dealer. I was conversational and friendly. I didn't argue with or dismiss anything, but rather ran with the flow of the conversation that she was setting, while at the same time probing for more information. I got a lot of it. I feel I could probably become a dealer there in the next month if I wanted to.

No, I'm not going to tell you what she told me. But this is still yet more proof positive that if somebody wants a job somewhere, the absolute best source of information as to their hiring practices is NOT a bunch of random smartasses online, but... and go with me here, because I know it sounds out-there... the establishment itself.

I know, it's a crazy wacky foreign concept, and nobody here seems to understand it, but I guarantee this isn't magic. Anybody can do it!

Criminey. I got this in a PM from the OP. Normally I would never share info from a PM, but this highlights my bemusement at how people react to this rather sane advice I always give to this question.

[ QUOTE ]
Could you give me a little insight on what the lady on the phone told you about becoming a dealer at the horseshoe. You said you could probably have the job in a month while the floor supervisor says someone literaly has to die for a spot to become available. Did she say that you have to have any prior experience or graduate from one of the many dealer schools. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[/ QUOTE ]

Seriously, why is it impossible for you to find a telephone and use it?

Cmon guys, give OP a break, he has obviously been a longtime dedicated contributor here and simply wishes for someone to do his legwork for him in return...

Do what people there and most other places do, start at the crappy cardrooms if you have the money and patience to wait it out. Go to Hollywood, Sam's Townm or if another place there has a small room, and put in an application. They have high turnover, and crappy games, and you won't make much money. But, other casinos lose dealers as well. Poker is seasonal, and picks up during vacations and tourneys. If you have experience in a small room during off-season, you can be hired at a bigger place during a tourney, and possibly be retained full-time. If you can't get in at the small room off the bat, get hired waiting tables in house at the buffet or restaraunt. Then, try to transfer in. Be nice, be on time, and be politely insistent.

I agree I'm coming off a little harsh. I apologize. I don't intend malice, only humor. I mean, c'mon now. Step back a bit and assess this. You asked a question and I gave you the best possible answer, right away. You then ignored that advice and asked again, so I followed my own advice and got a lot of information with minimal effort and told you that it was that easy. Then you again asked me to spell it out for you. I decided to take the approach I did. Do you see why?

There are many cardrooms in Tunica. I'm not going to call up every single one and be your advocate. I'm trying to tell you that if you want a job at a cardroom, ask the cardroom how to get a job there. I don't know how much simpler this can be, yet you continue to refuse to accept it and get pissy when others have a little bit of fun with your stubbornness.

If you're this touchy, you won't survive as a dealer.

I dont know if this has been discused before but I am thinking about becoming a dealer in Tunica. I have family there and plan on moving there next month. Can anyone help me out with info about getting licensed and what dealer school to attend that is closest to Tunica. Also I know there are some members of this site that deal in Tunica. If you could let me know which casinos in the area have available possitions I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to deal at the Horseshoe but I would be willing to take any job available. Also I was wondering what the average yearly salary is for a poker player in the Tunica area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ps- I tried the search feature and couldn't find anything.

Fair warning. Dont come on here and ever complain that you dont make enough from tips or that someone stiffed you or you will get destroyed by half of the members of this forum. LOL
