I used to be an avid Dr. Pepper drinker, and since have gone back to mostly Coke, but I still enjoy it from time to time. However, at restaurants, I ask for Dr. Pepper and they tell me they don't have it, but have root beer.

Am I missing something here? I can't figure this out -- the two drinks do not even taste remotely similar, and I hate root beer.

Nobody I know has a clue, either.

[/ QUOTE ]
I was at Pizza Hut with a friend a few years ago and he ordered a root beer. The waitress then says, "I'm sorry, we don't have root beer...but we do have wild cherry Pepsi!"

We were baffled and still joke about it today.

Evan,

"Yo dude, remember that one time when the waitress asked if I wanted Wild Cherry Pepsi? That was [censored] classic. Good times, good times..."

I think Dr. Pepper and cherry coke/pepsi have some similarities -- initial taste is pretty similar, aftertaste is way different.

I don't get your question, though. How would you describe what "coke" tastes like? Its just a sugar beverage.

I understand, but what flavor would you use to describe it, if you had to?

Dr. Pepper

I [censored] hate how when you put $20 in gas in and the [censored] pump starts running at a near stop when it gets to $19.50 and you're left standing there like a [censored] douche when it takes 5 minutes longer to pump the 50c of gas as it did for the first $19.50

I had never heard of Mr. Pibb until like probably 3-4 years ago. I thought it was a new drink at the time. I'm surprised to know it has been around for so long.

And seriously, am I the only person that's gotten this response from waiters/waitresses?

OP - I have been offered Dr. Pepper when I had asked for Root Beer but not the other way around

also,

PiBB is a lot sweeter than Dr. Pep, and Dr. Pep has a LOT of carbonization compared to Mr Pibb, they have it at McDonalds here in CA (Pibb) Prunes and/or Prune Juice/extract are supposed to be one of the 23 ingredients in Dr Pepper

Not to hijack, but I've always had a question about Dr. Pepper/Mr. Pibb. What the hell is it supposed to taste like? I love it, but I have no idea what the flavor is. My mom always tried to tell me it was cherry, but I never bought it. I don't taste cherry.

[/ QUOTE ]
Dr Pepper tastes just like cherry coke to me.

I always thought of Mr. PiBB as a 'poor mans' Dr. Pepper.

Still can't explain what the [censored] they taste like, though.
