Here's what donkey me would have done on the turn.
The way the hand was played up to the turn - I think the best move there is to put some pressure on and raise. Like Daryn says, flop 3 bet would have done nearly next to nothing except set you up for getting turn check-raised / raised. Turn you raise to possibly kick johnnydollar's T (or if you're very lucky and he's super weak, a J) out or if you actually are ahead - protect your hand and charge him the max. But don't get carried away you're raising for immediate fold equity and a free showdown - don't fire river U/I. And even if you improve to a set, don't put more than 2 bets in on the river. Given the way ppkaine played so far KQ is one of his likely holding (even more likely on the river, but you don't know that at the time). ~andy |

the alternative line to folding the turn is raising the turn. but i think calling is really bad.
as far as not putting in more than 2 bets on the river with a set, i think you mean 3, because im raising if ppkaine bets a 9 on the riv, and calling if he 3bets |

Err yeah you're right. I had meant if checked to me I bet and get raised I only call, but if bet into me and I have a set I of course raise and crying call a 3b.
Was in a hurry to get to lunch : P ~andy |

consider it this way. up to the turn you played it in a way that is +EV, so let's ignore the first two streets for now.
the three things you can do on the turn is fold, call or raise. If i had to rank the three options it would go fold > raise >>> call in terms of EV. it really depends on how stupid you think ppkaine is (and imo, the answer is really stupid) |

You dont think a 3 bet on the turn gets Jonny out? Raise on the flop or turn might have been good, unless you know Jonny is too loose to fold here.

You dont think a 3 bet on the turn gets Jonny out? Raise on the flop or turn might have been good, unless you know Jonny is too loose to fold here. [/ QUOTE ] On this board, I think the highest chance to get Johnny to fold (all things considered), is a raise on the turn after ppkaine leads the turn. Which is why given the way OP's line taken on the first two streets, I think raise > fold >>>>> call. It may be close between raise or fold, but I lean towards raising the turn because I don't like to fold 99 on this particular type of board when it's capped pre flop in a button vs sb vs bb. I think folding it without contesting at some point post flop is just giving up a lot. ~andy |
