I just don't understand why this award show is necessary. I mean, I do understand, but I don't.

The death knell occurred when ABC/Disney bought ESPN... it's been all downhill ever since.

When SC started pushing agendas and sports based on their broadcast rights and relationships, as opposed to simply reporting the results and providing analysis in a straightforward yet humorous way.

It wasn't when Stuart Scott came on the show, it was watchable when he was just one of many hosts. It was definitely massively better 5 years ago, but I can't put my finger on exactly what one thing did it. It's a whole ton of little things, from the Hot Seat to Who's Now to their constant self-promotion to Steven A Smith being employed, etc. etc.
Most basically, the show used to be 90% highlights, now it's like 60%. They've offloaded most of the "result of game" type stuff to Baseball Tonight and it's equivalents. |

[ QUOTE ] Since Stuart Scott. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] Actually, Stuart Scott wasn't always bad. Him and Eisen were a really really good team. |

[/ QUOTE ] I used to not mind Stu at all and therefore I'm going to make my nomination for this thread: When Stu Scott started doing his freestyle poetry |

[/ QUOTE ] winner. i don't watch SC anymore (never really did), but do they show AFL highlights yet? If they're not this year, they will be next year - 'cause ESPN's got the rights! |

for me, it just became so. Every time I've turned it on in the last couple weeks I've caught it right smack in the middle of a little who's now.
how can ya think VINCE YOUNG is more now than maria sharaPOVA? if she's playin tennis, YOU'RE WATCHin! she's got tha commercials, the looks, the wimbleton WINS - now vince young might be the FUTure, but if yer askin me who's NOW???? i got to go with maria. I mean it's just intolerable and so far from the realm of what sports actually are that I find it offensive. I'd much rather see 3 more highlights from each baseball game, or speculation on trade rumors, or even those [censored] human interest stories. I will tune back in once the who's now nonsense is over, and give it another chance. I fear that DP leaving might be the death blow, however. James |

I don't get the hate for ESPN or MTV....they gave us ESPNews and MTV2 for serious music/sports, and then make the primary station more enttertainment based. Why not just watch EspnNews or MTV2 and stop complaining?
