Re: Post About Wilco
I discovered YHF first and I really liked a couple of songs, gave the rest of the album a chance and it really grew on me. Next I listened to A Ghost is Born and it was even better. Being There and AM are both very good, but not on par with the newer records in my opinion. Sky Blue Sky is a great addition, but it took a few plays for me to really appreciate it.
I always thought that A Ghost is Born was my favorite, but thinking about it now, I think I like Summerteeth better over all. My very favorite tracks are on Ghost, but Summerteeth has 12 great songs on it. The live album Kicking Television is tremendous, but I think it would be better if you had already become familiar with studio versions of the songs. Wilco also has some great songs and covers that do not appear on any albums. They are one of my absolute favorite bands and I listen to them a lot. |

Re: Post About Wilco
I never could get into Wilco, though I like different music and certainly have an open mind for it.

Re: Post About Wilco
Summerteeth>YHF>>>>Ghost=Being There>>>AM>>SBS
Somebody get Jeff Tweedy hooked on drugs again, please. Every song on Summerteeth is fantastic, imo. One of the best albums of the last 25 years. Mermaid Ave's are both great. |

Re: Post About Wilco
I love the live album, but as mentioned above check out the studio albums first.
random note: a guy I work with was Jeff Tweedy's roomate for a while, and appears on a couple albums playing a really minor instrument |

I would love to listen to Summerteeth again for the first time. [/ QUOTE ] Me too. I first discovered Wilco when I bought Being There in 1996 based on a favorable Rolling Stone review (LOL). I loved it, and I bought Summerteeth as soon as it came out. It and YHF are two of my favorite albums of the last decade. Wilco also put on the best live show I've ever seen- September 22, 2001, at Stubb's BBQ in Austin, TX. If you remember the chronology of the band, this was right around when YHF was supposed to come out, but Reprise dropped them (and they hadn't been picked up yet). Also, Jay Bennett had JUST been kicked out of the band. So there was this whole electric air about them, like nobody really knew what they were going to do, if they could keep it together, and they blew us away. Their performance of "Ashes of American Flags" was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. I didn't care much for Sky Blue Sky. |
