Can someone explain the point of the Shard trade? Instead of paying him 5/75, he's getting 6/126, and the Magic give up a 2nd rounder. Are they just being nice to their new player here by finding a way to pay him more money?

They also got a 9 million dollar trade exception. I think it is much more valuable then the 2nd round pick.

The question is why did the Magic do it - maybe Lewis forced it?

Didn't the Magic get rid of a couple bad contracts?

They finally got rid of Grant Hill's big contract. In other news, looks like Franchise just got bought out for $30 mil.

Pretty sure Webber is pulling the standard move of "I'll say I'm talking to the Mavs to drive up my value to the team I actually want to sign with." The Mavs never sign any decent free agent. The only one I can think of in recent years is the restricted deal for Michael Redd, which the Bucks obviously matched. Oh, what could have been.

Derek Fisher is going to the Lakers right?

Haven't heard this yet, but it would be super-sick. LA would love to have Fisher back. Great locker room presence and morale booster.

Webber would make a lot of sense for us, though. I don't really understand why he'd go anywhere else if we offer him the full MLE.
