I used to frequent Lou's Pub (from that thread about the 50 best bars in the country) and had it a couple of times as a gift from Lou. I'm not a big cognac fan but thought it was pretty good stuff.

Lou (who I think got about $50 c. 1997, a snifter for it)) used to put all the names of the people who bought it into a jar and when the bottle was empty he would draw a name and give the winner the bottle. Evidently it's some kind of bad ass crystal.

I'd take regular Hennessy or Courvoisier with a splash of Grand Marnier or Benedictine instead, much cheaper and better tasting.

The connoisseurs would cringe when I mix it with green tea

I had a swig and thought it was pretty awesome. Although I hate cognac normally. It starts warming from the throat area about 10 seconds after you drink it, and doesn't stop for 30 sec. or so. I thought that was pretty cool.

I've never had a proper cognac, but the cheaper ones taste like charcoal filtered gasoline to me. Since that was like 15 years ago, and I've developed a taste for single malt scotch, how would a good cognac compare?

Also, used to have balla friend who was young and rich and would order Louis XIII and a coke and then proceed to dump the cognac into the coke. Horrified the other patrons.

This stuff smells so good... and the nose on it lasts and lasts.

I have a Louis XIII Baccarat crystal bottle displayed. It is filled with VSOP. Most people cannot tell the difference, unless they've had XIII before.
