Evan, how far do you hit your 2-iron. By judging off your 5-iron... I'm guessing ~220. Is it pretty consistent? I was thinking about replacing my 5-wood with a 2-iron.

I hit it a little farther generally because I'm usually hitting it off a tee, which puts it at around 230 or a little longer. I rarely hit it off the fairway, mostly because I try to avoid leaving myself 200+ yard approaches, but when I do it's about 220 there.

I'm thinking that I might be able to hoist out a lofted hybrid club from the rough to bail myself out. I have no idea how these clubs play, though. Even hacking a club out of the deep rough something like 170 is a huge deal, and would make a big difference for me. I wouldn't expect this to be possible with the 17*, right?

What should I expect to get out of the 17*?

I have no problem leaving a spot open in my bag (or having a bit of overlap) at first, but I want my first hybrid selection to be the one that I will want to stick with.

im a beginner golfer and was wondering if you guys would clarify this. I don't know if I should buy a 3 wood or a hybrid 3 wood/iron. Would the hybrid 3 wood/iron be easier to hit/go as far as a 3 wood?

the 3 wood I have now is like from the 80's so I need a new club. Im a beginner I just need something that will be easy to hit I have a lot of trouble hitting the old 3 wood I was given.

I think you should just go to a driving range with a pro shop and try out a few different models/lofts. You'll be able to figure out a lot more doing than than you would be listening to whatever I think. It's just too hard to give advice on if I can't see your ball flight or know what kind of shots you like to hit.
