Re: Legal? 1/2 NL Flashed hole card
yes that's true - you cannot expose cards in a tournament (as noted in your example).
You also can't talk about your hands in a tournament, yet Jamie Gold did continuously for several days. Do NOT use Gold as an example of proper poker play or proper poker decorum, and you should be good |

Your girlfriend wanted you to be awarded the pot even though you did not have the best hand. I will self-censor. [/ QUOTE ] I have come to realize that a lot of smaller out of the way markets reward this sort of behavior. I have been told at least 20 times since moving in the middle of April that I was wrong and hands are dead for [insert whatever crazy reason you want, including magical mucks, dealer errors] everywhere else in the world including a woman that works at one of our competitors that told me she has worked in this business for 25 years so she must know what she is talking about. |

Yeah, some people think rules exist so that the people who know more about them can take advantage of those who know less.

A) Don't try to angle to win a pot you don't deserve to win
B) Your girlfriend is wrong - you can show your cards heads-up in a cash game. Jeff |

Re: Legal? 1/2 NL Flashed hole card
[ QUOTE ]
Someone said this situation would be different in a tournament. Is that true? Why? I feel like there was a hand last WSOP when Jamie Gold flashed a card at the final table and Phil Gordon (this was live coverage of some sort) said he should recieve a penalty. [/ QUOTE ] Most tourneys the hand would not be dead but the player who exposed the card may be given a time penalty. Why? Because showing your card in a tourney can effect everyone else's results by causing your opponent to play their hand differently. In a cash game it doesn't matter. |

Re: Legal? 1/2 NL Flashed hole card
[ QUOTE ]
I think that what the player with the other ace did was legal in most cardrooms. I have seen a lot of that in Florida NL games and nobody complains. In tournaments this is probably a different story. Good thing that the guy flashed the ace. Probably saved you some chips. [/ QUOTE ] At DERBY LANE if a player shows his or her card the opponent can request to see BOTH cards. |

Re: Legal? 1/2 NL Flashed hole card
Your post is fine.
Heads up it is not illegal in most rooms to expose one or both hole cards. Just make sure before you do so that it in fact legal. Some rooms would kill your hand. Calling the floor here and trying to win the pot on a technicality would be an extremely dirty tactic. If you're going to resort to angle shots and nit behavior, I suggest standing out in the middle of a freeway in LA as being better for the advancement of poker. Al |
