Re: in the Bunker...
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] A buddy of mine says to leave it in the bunker- since it's a hazard, a rake affecting the shot just "adds" to the hazard, whereas creating an additional hazard outside the bunker with a rake is unfair. Makes sense to me. [/ QUOTE ] except you get relief from the rake so that makes no sense. [/ QUOTE ] So if ball hits rake and goes into bunker...I get to take it out? I seriously do not know. |

Re: in the Bunker...
[ QUOTE ]
It varies from course to course, some say to leave it in the trap, others leave them on the outside. I'd guess its the level of maintenance that makes the difference. I used to work on a pretty nice course, and had to rake the bunkers occasionally and it sucked having to lean way over off the 'sand pro' to toss the rakes out of the bunker so you could get all the way out to the edge. Then I had to walk around the bunker afterwards tossing them all back into the trap. At a [censored] course they prolly more likely to leave them outside the trap so they can just get in and out quick. [/ QUOTE ] You seem the be forgetting the fact that anyone mowing "banks" (rough) needs to get off the mover at every singe bunker to move the rakes if they are not in the bunker so that he can mow. If you are raking bunkers you need to get off the sand pro anyways to rake the edges... So I actually think it's quicker if the rakes are in the bunker. Just thought I'd be a nit. |

Re: in the Bunker...
[ QUOTE ]
is there an unwritten rule as to where the rake should be placed after raking the trap?? [/ QUOTE ] 1. Its called a bunker. You are not going to find the word "trap": anywhere in the USGA or R&A rules 2. To answer your question, it is going to depend on where you play, the USGA recommends leaving the rake outside the bunker, you want to leave it in a place it points in the direction of play, basically on the sides of the bunker when looking toward the hole. Other courses prefer you to leave it in the bunker, this is because the greens staff does not want to deal with moving bunker rakes when mowing rough and is a very accepted practice, just make sure it is placed in the same manner as not to stop balls with the handle blocking balls from rolling in the direction of play. |
