There also used to be a free internet go server and several clients for it (like xEyes or something for *nix). That was about a decade ago, not sure of the current state.

There are several. IGS is the best, KGS is weird but works if you hate IGS for some reason and just want inferior competition, and NNGS (if it still exists, I don't know) never seemed to have many people on it when I looked.

I'm posting the raw contents of the .sgf file between myself and clown after discussion with Neil and Durron - hopefully they can help sort it out.

edit: added a few line breaks in the really long line - i think that's just where i put the move #s on the stones in the middle anyways.

E8 is dead but wasn't marked as such in the sgf record.

Final score, Black 25, White 11.5

Further analysis from Neil that he asked me to post:

(05:54:11 AM) The Nibor Ris: next question. Should we have stopped playing sooner? like, did i need to fill in the upper right with move 61 and 63?
(05:54:46 AM) The Nibor Ris: obviously clown's attempt at a foray with 64-66-68 was a wash (i lost three stones of area with my stones; but i captured his 3 stones)
(05:55:02 AM) Neil Stevens: C8 had no hope
(05:55:12 AM) Neil Stevens: you could have ignored that
(05:55:22 AM) The Nibor Ris: and what, just passed?
(05:55:28 AM) Neil Stevens: you had a guaranteed two eyes without it, since you can capture at E9 any time
(05:55:30 AM) Neil Stevens: yes you could have passed
(05:55:44 AM) Neil Stevens: he has no hope of making two eyes in that tiny space
(05:55:54 AM) Neil Stevens: also you can kill him in lower left
(05:55:58 AM) Neil Stevens: you play A3
(05:56:00 AM) The Nibor Ris: hah
(05:56:02 AM) Neil Stevens: he plays B4
(05:56:02 AM) The Nibor Ris: figures i missed that
(05:56:14 AM) The Nibor Ris: oooh, you're right
(05:56:17 AM) Neil Stevens: you play B3, C3, B1
(05:56:17 AM) The Nibor Ris: then he's dead dead
(05:56:22 AM) Neil Stevens: er, b2 not b1
(05:56:38 AM) Neil Stevens: otherwise there's nothing dangling
(05:56:39 AM) Neil Stevens: that I can see

I think nngs is dead

Neil, what is the best client for igs? I'm back from a trip to my in laws on sunday and would like to get in on the pog go revolution

I think it's better to play human opposition where possible so that you don't get too accustomed to a bot's style

[/ QUOTE ]We should play at least one game, heh.

I'm a fan of qGo, but gGo is acceptable but I don't know its maintenance status.
