I wish he'd post proper hand histories - sometimes he doesn't even tell you his cards or the board. Not like he is keeping up an air of mystery, really. He doesn't use PokerTracker, PAHUD etc. He just goes with his feeling!

donīt get the quote 100 % right, but thereīs something along the lines of "only listen to railbirds if they want to tell you how NOT to become like them" in barry greensteins "ace on the river" ...

NO WAI!!!!

Actually I write full sentences in other forums. But for BBV and NVG and especially this sort of post, this style seems most appropriate.

There are people that live and die for sports, watch them all the time, know all the stats and player and so forth.

Why is being this much of a fan (atic?) about sports acceptable and even encouraged, but luckyJimm having the same enthusiasm about hi-stakes poker is frowned upon and ridiculed?

I would gouge my eyes out if I had to sit down and watch an entire football game and would curse the wasted time i'd never get back, but I know some of you hating on Jimm don't miss a game.

I think a decent amount of poker's popularity is due to its emergence as a spectator sport, hence all the TV shows and DVDs. I'm one of these spectators; however perhaps watching people play online is a little less acceptable.

Also many 2+2ers, though playing lower limits than the ones I rail, take the game extremely seriously and give it a great deal of thought and analysis. As a spectator in a sense you stop having to think about the game so much, so naturally earn the contempt of the people who work hard at studying and developing their own game.

Railbirding is the equivalent of watching p0rno, while playing the tables yourself = getting laid. Some people prefer p0rno to sex, I guess. It's less rewarding but safer and easier.

But for me, as someone who's lost a [censored] playing poker over the last few years, turning from a player into a spectator seems a very sensible thing to do. And when I rail I'll be doing other things - okay even if it's just watching a movie.
