everyone already knows a bunch of their early stuff were "covers" of previous songs (in quotes because some of the songs are hardly recognizable compared to the original). not sure what the controversy is supposed to be here.

I don't get everyone saying "they stole some early stuff but wrote their own better stuff later". WTF ? I-IV are by far their best albums and most of the best songs are the stolen ones.
That doesn't change the fact that they are in fact a kick ass cover band, but to claim the later stuff that they wrote is better, nah.

ur right... very few popular music acts have ever stole lyrics or riffs. We should totally disregard Led Zep because of this. It's not like they had the most talented drummer of all time or anything.
