The total ydg of a course combined with distance off the tee (when you catch it flush) is a stupid metric for choosing tees. Someone might be a course 10 from the men's and a 12 from the tips, but able to play to the 10 and nowhere near the 12. A good course design will not only make holes longer, but find other ways to put pressure on the ball off the tee. And different approaches from different angles, likewise might provide stresses on the recreational golfer that don't always track well/linearly with increases in slope & rating. Also, there are plenty of guys who can hit it 250-280 *when* they hit it-- but are too inconsistent and wild to place any sort of extra demand on their driving.
Choose tees for which you can reasonably expect to be around your course handicap, provide the most enjoyment for you and your playing partners, and respect the course/other groups. Don't get into switzer measuring or worry overly much that some moron thinks he can measure your switzer by your tee choice. |

A better post would've been to whine about all the guys who have no business doing so playing from the back tees. This is FAR, FAR more prevalent than people playing from the whites who shouldn't be.

i'm a 15 hdcp and play whatever tees i feel like. i think a bigger problem is the idiots who have to play from the blues just cuz they're supposedly men. also 5 minutes is the max you should look for your ball.

Sometimes playing from the back tees can make a course easier as you can avoid some traps and such.

. Go watch the majority of tour pros and how fast they step up and hit the damn ball. [/ QUOTE ] It takes them minutes per shot. Some (Verplank and Garcia) are excruciatingly slow, taking 5 minutes per shot. Verplank's tee routine is ridiculous -- Garcia stands over approaches for 4-6 minutes. Perhaps you've not seen the pros actually play live? |

Just out of curiosity, why do you care what tees I hit from?

If you keep getting better and get to about a 20-25, where you hit the ball consistently pretty good, you need to move back. [/ QUOTE ]You want 25 handicappers to go back a set of tees? Give me a break. Between this and the idea that tour pros play fast, this thread is just a total joke. You have no idea what you're talking about. |
