I kept waiting for one of these images to Stuey-morph into Mason Malmuth doing a cannonball or something.

It never happened

My recommendation is the following:

<constructive criticism>
From the start, pay attention to small details. Make things look good, smooth, clean etc. Don't stop until it looks perfect to you. That's generally the point at which other people start thinking it looks ok. Your work is pixelated, rough and overall has a harsh feel. Furthermore, you should learn a thing or two about the elements of good design. Your work is not pleasing to the eye. Someone else already pointed out the jarring fonts.
</constructive criticism>

However, for someone who just picked up Photoshop you seem to at least have gotten a lot of the main features under the belt.

Thanks for the constructive criticism everyone. I will do a few more images, maybe of football players this time, and spend more time on details. Hopefully I can improve on my first attempts.

I'm not sure if this is the "web 2.0" in me speaking but your pics way too busy with filters.

Basically, less = better. IMO good design comes from proper color balance, contrast, and picture/text placement. Not the amount of detail/filters that's in the picture.

This is why it's good to study an art/design course before even touching photoshop or another image editor. You don't need to go take an actual course, but at least research it.

You'd be surprised at how good an amateur can design something if he knows what works with what.

I just downloaded Photoshop CS2

I can't believe no one pounced on that yet!

Whenever I see that beveled text, it screams "ZOMG
I just got PhotoShop, look at this raised text, etc."

Good design is not about special effects and overused
filters (this actually applies to music also), it's
about conveying a feeling/message.

That said, I have seen much worse...even by "pros";
and it's never cool to make fun of someone's work
whether they are 2 or 200 (although you DID ask
for it in OOT )

These seriously would be awesome if you were going for like retro-ridiculous 80's hipster ironic graphics. If you did one of these with "Mustache Rides" or something you could probably sell T-shirts.

You should do one with like a unicorn playing an eletric guitar and the music like flying out of the guitar and killing Osama or something.
