The same reason they do not like Tim McCarver, Dusty Baker, Rick Sutcliffe, and Hawk Harrelson; because they are terrible baseball announcers who ramble on about how it was in their day and offer no insite to the viewer about the game on TV at the time.
And as someone mentioned above, check out firejoemorgan.com for examples of all these announcetards in action.

Merrill Hodge. I used to hate Sean Salisbury as well, but I think he's gotten better over the last couple years and occasionally makes sense now. But Hodge has always been a moron.
 That was before the 2004 season. You know, the one where the Eagles went 13-1 in games where they actually cared and went to the super bowl.
