Re: Unusual Reaction To Teenage Pregnancy
My girlfriend (now wife) gave birth to my little girl (now 6)when I was 17 yrs old. My wife was about 4 months pregnant when we told our parents. We just kept putting it off b/c we were scared to death.
Both of our parents were very supportive throughout the whole ordeal. I don't know what else good parents can do in that situation. My wife and I both went to college and got married at the end of my junior year. Without the help of our parents, I doubt this would have been possible. BTW, everyone in our community was pretty shocked at the time. I was a 4.0 student and never in trouble. Abortion was never really an option for either my wife or I. |

Re: Unusual Reaction To Teenage Pregnancy
OP -
I'm curious what you think the mother should have done? Disowned the daughter? Kicked her to the curb (assuming she's living at home)? Not offered any support? Screamed at her? You say that "it's not right to have a kid at 17" (something many many cultures would disagree with) but offer no alternatives to the mother's support. |

[/ QUOTE ] I am not really upset about the support. It was just the lack of seriousness. She was like, "SWEEET A BABY" instead of, "well we will deal with this as a family, but a baby is a serious responsibility, blah blah". Just not the reaction one would expect. Edit: Also the lack of interest for key information was kind of depressing. The girl has had a bunch of boyfriends and the mom didnt really care who the dad was or anything. If my kid(I dont have one yet) got pregnant I would call the family and say, "X got her pregnant I talked to his parents and ...." Instead we get a call of, "I am having a grandchild!, This is so coool." I guess my reaction would be way different. |

[/ QUOTE ] Once you've been personally involved in a situation like this, you'll understand why your aunt responded the way she did... The WORST thing she could have done was reacted the way you want her too - being "well i'm concerned and i dont think its the right decision but you're family and I'll support you". Pregnant girls are literally freaking out every other hour of the day. Her mother reacted perfectly. Call her and congratulate her, she'll REALLY appreciate it. |

It just wasn't for me. I didn't want to life my life thinking "what if." Also, it was ultimately my wife's decision, and I don't think she ever seriously considered it. |
