Basically 99% of elected officials are socialists, as are about 99% of voters. They just have slight differences of opinion on which things should be socialized to what degree.

Why is everyone bashing the gold standard? The only reason any government has left the gold standard is to inflate currencies for their own gain at the eventual detriment of the general population. No fiat currency has ever withstood the test of time, and yet gold has always had value.
The real reason the government doesn't want to go back to gold is because they will no longer be allowed to spend willy nilly at that point. Once the gold is gone, its gone. You actually have to produce more than you consume to get it back.

The fact that people think it's a weakness/insane because they're too ignorant and lazy to research his ideas, while quick to scoff (Giuliani), illustrates why Ron Paul has little chance.
