Re: Greatest \"web gems\"
Ozzie's is my favorite, but here are three more:
1) Willie Mays (everyone knows what play I'm talking about) 2) Kevin Mitchell's bare handed catch of Ozzie Smith's flyball in left field in 1989. 3) Robin Yount saving Juan Nieves' no-hitter in 1987 by making a diving catch for the last out. Not really any better physically than any other diving catch, but the ramifications were significant. |

Re: Greatest \"web gems\"
Two from Bo Jackson: (Sorry, couldn't find the videos)
I believe this was in the Kingdome. Jackson fields a ball hit down the line in left. I think the runner was on 1st and running on the play. Bo is in the corner near the 309' sign when he unleashes what is the most awesome throw I have ever seen - from the left field corner to the catcher ON THE FLY. He had the runner by at least 15'. The looks on the runner's face (Harold Renyolds?) and the catcher's face (Bob Boone) were just priceless. Bo playing CF. He makes a running catch in the left-center alley near the wall, and he is running full steam. Rather than crash into the wall as most people would, Jackson literally runs up and across the wall. The camera zoomed in on the wall later in the inning, and you could see where Jackson's cleats had poked holes in and torn the covering for the padded walls. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dK6zPbkFnE [/ QUOTE ] To me, it wasn't even the catch that was great. It was the fact that immediately after he caught it, he spun around and fired the ball into the infield and prevented the runner from tagging up. |
