by just calling it also looks like your on a draw, so not only does this disguise your hand it also increases the likelyhood that the villain may shove with his draw on the turn.

Also by just calling your not going to pay off his flush if he makes it on the turn, thus with this line your only folding to a flush card, other scare cards i pay off.

I am sure you are speaking like this cause draw card didnt hit the turn.

But if a draw card hit the turn, what are you going to do when he shoves? Put all your money in as a 30-70 underdog? According to your definition, that would make you a bad player.

Shove, if you call it must be with the intention to get it in on the turn whatever Villians action is and what card comes of.

The only reason you ever call here is if you are playing a very aggressive player who will not be on a "standard draw or made hand" but instead air a lot. I could see calling against the very most aggressive, but here its an easy shove. You also have to shove this to protect the times you are bluffing or semi bluffing so you aren't predictable.

Man, with a set, you're better than 50-50 against ANY HE draw here. I think it's maybe 60-40 against KQs.

You also may now be folding to JT on a flush card or 66, and, even if you assume he has the flush 100% on the turn, you take away your redraw to fill up.

I THINK I remember someone making an EV calculation with open cards in this kind of situation with KQs where you assume HUGE stack depth (like probably more than $10k given the betting situation already). As I recall, at some point KQs needs just to call, but the set always needs to raise to maximize EV.

Is high stakes really this bad?

thanks for the responses so far, all pretty standard shoves. I don't mind that play, and for the most part i believe a shove is the most ev plus play, however vs this player with position and knowing that hes going to shove almost any turn i prefer just to call.

His hand range is pretty open faced imo, thus by calling, hopefully seeing a non spade turn u can get the money in on the turn with a 70% plus edge as opposed to a coinflip vs KQ or 89 spades all in on the flop. Afterall isnt the reason good players make money at poker because they get their money in in good spots as opposed to 50 50s.
