[ QUOTE ] That's the same as I have. 2 dual core 3 gig Xeons with HT. 8 logical processors baby!!! [/ QUOTE ] How are you getting 8 logical processors? Are yours quad-core? Mine are only dual-core. [/ QUOTE ] I have 2 dual core processors with HT enabled. (2x2)x2=8 |

Re: 64-bit and hyperthreading question

I was also wondering, why the [censored] is Vista 64-bit so slow? Is it my computer? Do I have a set of hardware that just doesn't work well with Vista? Or is it just Vista? Is there anyone else here running Vista 64-bit who thinks it's fast (as in more responsive than XP, or at least AS responsive)? [/ QUOTE ] I run 64 bit Ultimate and it's pretty responsive. I will say that XP was much more stable. I have 4 GB of RAM too, so I'm not lacking on that side. I'm ab to switch it back to XP due to some weird problems that have materialized lately. |

I have 2 dual core processors with HT enabled. (2x2)x2=8 [/ QUOTE ] I don't understand where that extra x2 is coming from. Is hyperthreading supposed to trick the OS into believe that there's double the cores? |

HT is a technology that allows the OS to turn one PHYSICAL processor into 2 LOGICAL processors. Each logical processor functions within the OS as a true physical processor. You can assign affinity, etc. |

Re: 64-bit and hyperthreading question
Ok, I'm a tard. I think my Xeons are single-core. I bought this computer back in ~march 2005. According to Wikipedia, that was before they introduced the first dual-core Xeons. I couldn't figure out why mine was only showing 4 logical processors. Oh well, at least I learned something from this thread.
