Joe Seebok accidentally/stupidly mentioned on PokerWire that he sometimes plays using his girlfriends account, this resulted in the site that he plays on locking his account while they investigate, and a stern DON'T DO THAT ANYMORE e-mail once they made sure he wasn't multi-accounting.

Metaphorically speaking its more along the lines of misdemeanor than a felony. Its like speeding, illegal but not in the same league as murder or robbery.

If the player in question is sponsored it may be a violation of their sponsorship agreement.

I don't see why letting someone play a tourny, or even a cash game, on your username is unethical.
Its like giving someone your bankroll to go play with, or paying for their buy in in a live game. Is that wrong? No not at all.
I understand having multiple accounts and why sites would fear the use of them but besides that, its not wrong what so ever.
Its just a name. Its the money that matters.

imo it's not unethical in the least, unless somehow you are specifically claiming you are that person in the chat or you deliberately set up a hu match and then replace the player.

It seems fine in MTT's, but a little sketchy in bigger cash games(Especially if the name is well known), and then very very wrong HU.

I don't believe I need to say who I'm talking about. If I didn't know who they were, and what their username was, I wouldn't have asked the question. I only bring this up because back when I use to play Joe Cassidy and Dustin HU, they would often play on each others names to try and be sneaky (never fooled me). Just asking a question to see who thinks it's ethical and who thinks it's lame.

100% unethical imo

well it happens every day. Don't always assume the notable player in the big games online is actually the player, at those levels people trade accounts left and right to pay back debts, to settle a score, to gain an edge. I'm not going to name names, but there is someone who recently started playing 1k/2k HORSE who doesn't have the bankroll to play 200/400, and is known to be a bad player. Yet he is killing the 1k/2k games because its not him playing on his screen name, the other players in the game probably don't know yet but his friends all know that this is the deal.

It was 15/30. I still see him playing 20/40 at Mirage every week - sans computer of course
