C'mon Eskimo you know that's a silly statement. Obviously OP doesn't confirm this until the turn action. Hero's mistake here is calling the turn raise and then folding the river. Either he folds turn or calls both.

The one question I have not been able to answer (yet)in these thankfully somewhat rare situations is: What makes me a better player here. Folding that turn when I'm 90-something percent sure I'm beat or calling down knowing my read only has to be incorrect 5% of the time. It's that "something" that needs an exact value assiagned to it to make the mathamatically correct play. I always say I'm 99.9% sure I'm beat but call for what I think is piece of mind. Then for days and sometimes weeks afterward I tell myself how much I suck for not laying it down. In the end I end up with no money and no piece of mind.

Someone tell me again why I play this game.

The mistake here is not or I should say should not be the river call. Before making the river bet you assigned a range to villian. You made the bet knowing weather or not you would call a raise. If you knew you were calling you then had to feel you would win more than 67% of the time in order to make that bet. Not going through that thought process would be the error.

What are the chances villian has Kx here. Is he calling with Qx/Tx. Would we not see at least one raise from a lower set.

Hi, Shar, welcome back to the kiddie pool.

Without a read on villain, we need to do some hand reading. What could villain 3-pop pf with, check/call the flop then dark check turn and river? And how does villain see hero?

Preflop, we could put villain on any big pair initially (TT+), and AJs+. The flop action, or lack of it by villain would pretty much, but not necessarily, preclude the big pairs except for JJ which gives vill an OESD. AJ would fill the straight, which some villains would rather c/r the turn with. So my leading suspects of hands that vill would have is JJ and AJ, with QQ TT and 99.

Turn dark c/c with 8 gives us no information and vill is going nowhere with most likely a draw that kills us or a c/r . Any set would have bet out, or maybe c/r. We can make a draw pay, but to what end? I think the 1BB gamble here is pretty close to 0EV.

The river 9 gives a straight to any J. What good does a river bet do with someone who has dark checked once already?

Given that he only called and was described as loose and started the hand with 6BBs, he could have almost anything. If you meant button, TT+. Not with equal weight though.

Having to this far, I don't see how you can lay down the hand on the river when you are getting twenty to one. That said, you probably have the third best hand.
