If you can't consistently beat the rake at 1/2 NL live then you're not going to beat .10/.25 NL online w/ rakeback.

[/ QUOTE ]

Not in the capped games in SoCal, the rake is unbeatable. Where I mostly play, the Bike, the structure is as follows:

1-2Nl $80 max buyin. $3 flat drop +50c jackpot +$1 on river. $4.50 times a conservative 25 hands an hour =$100 per hour.

2-3NL $100 cap $3 flat drop+ $1 jackpot + $1 on river

2-5NL $200 cap $4 flat drop +$1 jackpot +$1 on river

The first level where the games can be beat is the 5-5 $300min $500max game with the same drop structure as the 2-5 game.

Something to keep in mind also. Despite the expansion of live poker the past few years (more rooms opening, more tribal casinos opening, etc.) there are still a lot of people who don't have easy access to B&M play.

Poker room closest to me is 90 miles away. Guessing some might feel a 180 mile round trip is "reasonable", but not me. That's close enough for a trip on the weekend, but can't really pop in for a couple hours after work.

Ive noticed a severe tightening of low limit games online.

For example yesterday in the supposedly fishy 888 site the flop came j77 giving me tptk, and the sb a set.

He bet out i called/ Turn he checked i bet/ River He checks so i think he has j10 etc so bet...

What pisses me off is that he only called on the river so i went NUTS!!

How the fk r u meant to get paid at this level when tight asses like this are jammin the game.

I dont know i like to play ABC poker but when the other half of the table do the same do i really ave to mix it up at NL25?

In short i agree with the Op online game is becoming less and less profitable... Pray the Asians help us out.

can someone explain why legislation affect the game so much? I don't understand.

Thanks.

BTW I too noticed how sick tight games have become, not that I care, I still smash up NL25

You should have been around in 2004, early 05. (I wish I was the player then I am now.) It was nuts. Anyone who had a modicum of PF knowledge could make a ton of dough. Then, the credit card companies stopped allowing deposits to be made using a CC. The games started going downhill, immediately.

After the UIGEA, they became downright tough, even at the lowest levels they became tougher. For the same reason as above. When the fish go broke, if they can't easily redeposit, they leave. As time has gone by, more and more players have busted out. Those who were marginally good have been taken out by slightly better players, who are now at risk from better players.

It all comes down to how easy/difficult it is to deposit. When there are no fish, it makes no sense to be a fisherman.

Very unfortunate, but very true.

12) That pesky ADHD won't be a factor online

[/ QUOTE ]

This is a bigger factor for some of us than you would think.

Also add:

13) Tilt control (it sucks when you drove 90 minutes to play poker, and are tilting but want to "get in some poker time" to justify the drive and so keep playing)
14) Table selection
15) Card dead online > card dead live. I played a 14 hour session live a few months ago where I didn't get a hand better than TT, and time-wise that should never happen online.

So he didn't charge you the max and this makes the games tougher? Does not compute.

The games are still eminently beatable. If you can't watch a table for 10 minutes and identify a slew of exploitable errors being made by each player, then it's not the games being tough, it's you being bad.

In terms of poker skill, I barely rate as "competent", but I'm having very little problem winning right now.

Yeah, i am sure cocktail waitresses are so easily impressed by 19year old gamblers who do chip tricks.
Remember, poker for girls is similar to roulette, we are all a degenerate gamblers to them.
