I'm not a huge fan of Ron Paul (other than a deep respect for libertarianism and his pro-rights stance) but this is awesome. The simple fact that someone that has no industry backing can make this much of an impact gives me hope for humanity.

[/ QUOTE ]
Don't get carried away. I'll be impressed when he polls above 5% or half the people in this thread who say they love him actually man a phone bank or pass out flyers.

Like it would be really hard to scam up 5600 subscribers per day.

[/ QUOTE ]
Its so depressing that even among candidates you like the default reaction around here is cynicism. I mean, Paul has zero campaign aparatus so there is no one to gin up the subscribers. Yet, he has the most. Do you honestly believe that the accounts were faked?

[/ QUOTE ]

All, no, a lot of them, yes. There is such a dichotomy between Paul's poll numbers in random sample polls vs. "polls" like this where it's relatively easy to skew the numbers with technical wizardry that one has to assume that something is going on. It's definitely not the Paul campaign itself, but a small number of technically saavy supporters could easily create the spam campaign that's been going on a number of media fronts. The one thing they can't genrate is random poll numbers, but maybe they hope to by making the appearance of a "popular" uprising.

More poll numbers come out tomorrow on Rasmussen, if he's above 2% I'll be shocked.

Washington Post article today about the relative internet popularity of presidential candidates - no mention of Paul, despite the statistics...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con...;referrer=email

"No Republican comes close to matching the popularity of another Democratic candidate, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, on YouTube, MySpace and Facebook, the social-networking triumvirate."

Wouldn't the bigger campaigns have the same tech savvy supporters? Does Paul have a monopoly on these tech guys who can game the system?

Perhaps he is just the only republican that the Democrats follow.

He is getting support from Independents, Democrats, Libertarians and people who normally don't vote. Also, some of his supporters are very intense and make sure that they vote in every online poll and get others to vote in these polls.

More poll numbers come out tomorrow on Rasmussen, if they actually include him & frame the question properly I'll be shocked.

The reality is that virtually noone you talk to in the real world will even know who he is. There's a ways to go before he even starts registering in the polls, but how internet popularity transfers over to the real world hasn't really been seen in something like this. I am interested to see what happens.
