Oliverts says he does not includes Australia in part of Asia. You just cannot. That's a different continent by itself. [/ QUOTE ] For most multinational businesses including poker, "Asia" or "Asia Pacific" often refers to Australia, New Zealand, and the islands in the Pacific Ocean besides the continent of Asia. Also note that in the world of professional soccer (football), Australia competes in the Asian Football Confederation rather than the Oceania Football Confederation. Why? Home games for the Australian national soccer team against the likes of Japan, South Korea, Iran and China draw MANY, MANY more spectators compared to home games against New Zealand, Fiji, and Solomon Islands. Making the switch from Oceania to Asia in 2006 was perhaps the best business decision made by Football Federation Australia in the past decade. Perth, on Australia's west coast, is in the same time zone as China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Singapore (6 of the biggest Chinese-speaking territories in the world) from April through October. |

Re: Asia Pacific Poker Championship
Hi there! I came across your forum and would like to update you on the APPC event that was held on the island of Tinian. There were 85 participants total from Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Japan and Korea. The total prize pool handed out was $87,000 cash, the 2007 APPC bracelet, a seat in the 2007 WSOP and airfares to Vegas. Not bad considering it was a first time event. I hear they plan on holding another one at the same time next year (US Memorial Day weekend)with more interest coming in from Japan and Korea. It was an action packed weekend with 24-hour ring games on the trot from Thursday right through to Tuesday: Hold'em limit and no-limit, Seven card and Omaha. Not bad if you need an excuse to visit a tropical island AND play cards... Cheers! [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
