Re: Poker attire
Instead of figuring out why someone dresses the way they do at the poker table, you could be using that time and energy to disect their POKER game...not their personal attire.

Re: Poker attire
Well sometimes you don't get any information on their game before you have to play a major pot
Plus you'd be surprised how much information you get outside of the cards. |

Re: Poker attire
I find the things people have to say and what they appear to notice much more relevant than what they're wearing. I'm almost invariably the tightest player at my table, and people tend to comment on it. Still, I've always gotten plenty of action. I think it's just because I'm a nice guy and people like me. Being good looking and modest doesn't hurt, either.
Seriously, though, I've never ridiculed anyone for giving me a bad beat, or bluffing me off the best hand, or even just smelling really bad. I'm sure what you wear is relevant, but it's far from the whole picture. Table demeanor has much more effect on people's perceptions of you as a poker player. |

[ QUOTE ] Has anyone else dealt with this or experimented with their "poker look"? [/ QUOTE ] Looking like a scrub can indeed be +EV [/ QUOTE ] looking like the person contrary to the general consumer base can be +EV. I am well known for wearing suits to poker rooms, I almost always get much more action when I do - people tend to ignore that I might actually have a clue how to play this game. |

It's a question of someone's hygiene. Having personally been at a poker table where someone went to the bathroom all over himself and didn't seem to care, this is a good situation to say something. Also, someone mentioned Eskimo Clark above. I believe there's been some situations where he was asked to leave a poker room or change his clothes because of B.O., though I could be mistaken. At least I know that's his reputation. |
