Re: A9s utg....play along please! what it do
[ QUOTE ]
Alright, in the actual game I went with the consensus here and I limped as well. Before I continue with the play along, I was wondering, is there any justification to raise PF with this hand? Is ATs really that much better than A9s? [/ QUOTE ] you've gotta draw the line somewhere. honestly, sometimes i would limp ATs and sometimes i would raise A9s. i hate thinking in terms of "rules" when it comes to preflop actions. i like to play according to the situation. in this spot i would limp A9s. |

Re: A9s utg....play along please! what it do
alright...so you limp A9s utg...sounds good.
predictably, 5 people limp along after you, the blinds check. Flop comes a rather interesting AcQcQs. blinds check to you and.... EDIT: our hand is the Ad9d |

Ugh. I'm so worried we're gonna be dominated or crushed, I feel like checking and seeing what happens behind us.

Re: A9s utg....play along please! what it do
Bet. I don't think any gutshot is going to fold, and there's a very strong chance you have the best Ace, and a pretty good chance you have the best hand.

Re: A9s utg....play along please! what it do
I understand checking here also, because we want to play Ad9d and see a red flop rather than a black one... and the QQ should chill the action. But certainly I see that betting early might clear out at least half the competition and give our A a chance to hold up. Might this be one of those situations where we want to bet to "see where we're at?"

Re: A9s utg....play along please! what it do
This is an easy bet. There may be a queen out there as well as a better ace but your hand can also be best here often enough to make a bet correct. What to do after this may be more difficult.

Re: A9s utg....play along please! what it do
alright...i bet as suggested. this seems like a rather obvious play to me...theres a good chance we have the best hand here, esp with no raise preflop. somewhat surprisingly, though all but one limper calls! the blinds fold. 5 (including me) to the turn.
turn is a brick (3s). our action? |

i'm a n00bie here, but are we not worried about someone holding a Q here?
