Gyms do this kind of crap all the time. Check out the Penn and Teller BS episode on Exercise vs genetics.

I hate this world sometimes, so many greedy liars, thieves, etc. People are just scumbags when it comes to money (any poker room anywhere is a good example of this). I'm going to get off this subject now because it raises my blood pressure and cortisol levels.

Yep, and if push comes to shove do a chargeback if they have your CC on file and keep charging you.

A place tried to do this to me and I refused to pay. They sent the $65 i owed for last month a collection agency. The agency sent a letter that said something like "if you believe this debt is in error you have 10 days to write a response..."

I wrote them a letter explaining why I didn't owe and wasn't paying, and i never heard from them again and it didn't go on my credit report.

most contracts have a clause that allows them to change any part w/o your consent nor the need to notify you.

Although I'm not a lawyer I'm going to go out on a limb and say "Ah, no."

[/ QUOTE ]

after brief research it seems that they just have to notify you and in most cases the changes take 30 days to apply

This is how gyms make money. They know most people sign up, go for a week or two, then quit.

That's why they require you do a 6month/1yr/2yr membership, so they can milk as much as they can.

I dont get emotionally upset about things like this. Instead, I take a diplomatic approach and call into action my extended vocabulary.

The douche meathead who owns the gym/gym company probably ran out of steroids or saw his 'little buddies' in the mirror and got jealous and then decided to take his rage out on you!

Whatever poster said the thing about those freedom to chance contacts at will and without notice clauses was probably right. I hate unethical bastards that go around screwing over honest people. How do gym memberships work? Did you pay 100% up-front and are seeking a refund? Could you say F-that to the membership and stiff them on payments without fear of credit issues?

I say fight the power if you can!

It's actually assault and battery fwiw.

You don't need to hit someone to assault them (by the law), and something as little as spitting on someone is battery.
