Default Re: Omaha 8 in Detroit Area

Well, math wise, 30BB is pretty standard for a limit game so $10 x 30 is $300. However, because its a full kill game I would recommend bringing more. If it's straight up 50% kill pots, then all else being equal, the limit should be considered 7.5/15. So $15 x 30bb = $450 buy in.

It's probably 35-40% kills when the kill limit is $80(or 8 big bets) minus rake like it is in motor city. This changes drastically with the rules, whether be half kills or less big bets to activate the rule. Taking an example from a casino couple hours away from Detroit in Soaring Eagle Casino(Mt. Pleasant), they have a 3-6 O8 game with a full kill at $36 minus rake. So that's 6 big bets versuses 8 big bets like in Motor City, bringing the percentage of kills probably a little over 60%. If there is one winner, it's always a kill. Plain and simple.

So I would consider that game to be a 5/10 game, bring $300 you'll be golden. The math would be 3/6 and 6/12 alternating should be considered 4.5/9, and kills are way more common than 50% so I concluded 5/10.

But then again, what the hell do I know, of the 15 or so regulars at MCC that I sat with weekly for the Wednesday game, I was one of only 2 players to sit with more than $200. The biggest majority sat with $200. But losing $80+ in a kill pot is not uncommon. Even if you have the best of it, there will be enough chasers to river you. Get rivered two kill pots and you're almost down to the felt. Maybe it won't for yall, but losing that much of my stack on a supposedly "correct" play effected my play, so I brought more.

And just to let you know, about a third of them sits with a $100! I forgot what the minimum buy in was, but I think it was $100. And they lose it, pull out another $100, repeat. In fact, the 3/6 game at soaring eagle had a min buy in of $30. It's absolutely annonying having someone with $30 in front of them taking up a seat when there is a list of 20 all bringing $100+ in. But hey, thanks for donating.

I've never counted the specific percentage of pots are killed, but there was a session of the 5/10 O8 full kill with cut off at $80 minus rake in Resorts Casino in East Chicago where a dealer dealt two NON kill pots in his 30 minute shift at the table. I think there were little over 20 kill pots. Most of them following each other. Though I will say that's rare, it's not impossible. The kill rules change per casino, mostly the amount it has to reach to double the blinds, but just know that kill pots tend to follow kill pots. All cards being unaccounted for, if the same number of players stay in a kill round as a non kill, it almost reaches the kill limit pre-flop, as you'll see below.

-----------------
5 pre-flop callers outside the blinds at 5/10, big blind checks and small blind folds = $25 + $5 + $2 = $32

vs.

5 preflop callers outside of the blinds, plus $10 post (killer from previous hand) is already $60 before it gets to the blinds if they all played the same cards. Now the killer usually has bad cards, but he's already in for it so he plays. Even if both blinds fold, that's already $67 in the pot. Not to mention big blind is getting 67:5 so better than 13 to 1 odds on his hand to see the flop, of course he'll call. That's $72 pre-flop.

And both situations have to reach the same amount to keep the game at "kill".
------------------

A minute per hand seems deathly slow for you online folks right? That's probably why I see yougens play O8 live they are almost always frustrated and playing awful cards. I'm not old by anyone's standards, but the pace of O8 might be the biggest hurdle of converting online to live. Playing profitably anyway.

What did you want to know about the pot limit game? PM me if you want, but I'm sure more than you are curious so I would preferr you posting it.

Sorry for the essay, I'm a little bored from the long weekend.

Oh just so you know, Soaring Eagle spreads O8 on Fridays and Saturdays, starting in the late after noons. Like I said, 3/6, full kill. I f'n hate that place, way more than greektown. You can't call ahead, so you end up waiting there for god knows how long. There's a million people waiting on the weekends, so be prepaired if you venture out there. The game is way way way more frustrating at 3/6 than 5/10. And my BB/hr was way better at the MCC game than there. But your milage may vary. But don't let me say I told you so when you don't enjoy yourself out there.
