Quick observations:

7 tables

Casino closes from 3am to 8am except Sat/Sun (not sure about Fri).

Staple games are 1/2 NL ($300 cap) and 3/6 limit. I've seen interest lists for 2/5 NL but never seen one going.

Drop 10% to $4 + $1 for BBJ. BBJ is aces full of tens beaten. Standard "we can drop the rake for your 4 handed at 3 am game, but you won't be BBJ eligible". Also standard "BUT BUT BUT WE COULD SPLIT ALL THAT MONEY 4 WAYS" replys from local lottery donks, resulting in full rake.

Dealers are well-meaning but completely green. Tables have shuffle machines, but the house requires the dealers to do a riffle before putting the used deck in the shuffler(!). 25 hands/hr would be a really, really good down. They'll get confused over missed blinds/button motion and sometimes miss split pots or counterfeits on the board.

No smoking in the room, but it's open to the casino and there's a bar w/smoking at the periphery. You'll still stink of smoke when you leave the room.

Other quirks: you can't buy drinks with chips, you have to give cash. Bottled water is $1. All containers (including cups of soda and water bottles) are confiscated before 2AM.

No food service at the table.

The poker room doesn't give points on their players card. It did when it was open (briefly) last year. The floor shrugged and said that this was the rule.

I was there on saturday and there were 3 nl 1-2 tables going very nice room. The game plays bigger then most 1-2 games because when you by in for lets say $100 they will give you only $10 in white and $90 in red. the opening raise at the table was 10,12,15 dollars on average and 95% of the time there would be 2-4 callers.

Inviting 2p2ers to ANY live game, NLHE, O8, Razz, ect, is almost always -EV...

True dat. The drive to Iowa is suicidal and boring. Not to mention the [censored] speed limit and border speed traps (2 tickets in 1 day, 1 going 70 in a 55 other 57 in a 55, I think the cop called ahead:-))
Turtle lake has 1-2 No limit, and some low limit games spread accross 8 tables last time I was there. Although the action is pretty good you also have alot of BAD players. Got called all in preflop by a 5/7 o to my j/j for 300$, guy flopped a straight, otherwise I love that play:-D

If you are an ex cantebury player do yourself a favor and dont wear your cantebury hat or talk like helmuth or annie duke. I'll tell you to [censored] off and mock your "minnesota pro" status.

If you are that good, play online or go to vegas. We go to turtle for fun, NL, and live craps. Not to get harrassed by a wannabe pro who wants to criticise our play.

That said, another good thing about turtle lake is they have a big screen tv that you can control while you wait for a game to open up, a hot dog machine, cookies, fruit, and pop that are available to players. I've been all over the world and have yet to see such anemities outside of a high roller area.

Iowa is -EV no matter what.
Turtle lake or a junket to vegas a much better alternative.

Want some random useless information?

35 is the only interstate that splits and it does so twice, once in minnesota and once in texas.

For Minnesotans I 35 splits at burnsville into 35 w which goes through minneapolis and 35 e which goes through st paul then the 2 turn back into 35 up north around the town of forest lake.

Does the same in texas although I dont know the particulars.

OMG! If word of this gets out, will they be able to withstand the crowds? I wonder what the Bellagio will have to do to try to get back the big game, once this hot dog and free pop news leaks out.

No joke. That place sounds like a game that would spring up in the basement of a church.
