Ill also add that NL swings are utterly insane, I have a friend who plays 100/200NL 6Max and the swings on his charts are soo violent I don't think I would ever be able to cope with that.

Obviously limit still has its swings, but it all seems more gradual.

Why limit?

[/ QUOTE ]

Force of habit.

Also, I find it much easier from a psychological standpoint to risk my money a little at a time in a LHE game than to run the risk of getting stacked in one hand in NL. I do like NL & I've been playing more of it lately, but only at stakes which don't really mean anything to me, or in tournament form.

Also I have no doubts whatsoever that I am a much better limit than no limit player, and while I do want to improve my NL (and other poker) game it makes much more fiscal sense for me to continue to focus on LHE right now. Although I fully realize that long term, I could likely make much more money by concentrating on NL.

cuz i suck at nl.

seriously, to get good at nl would require me to put in lots of time at nl microstakes, which would be very difficult considering i would be playing like 1/10 of normal limit stake. i doubt that skill in nl would set in before boredom.

I like the complexity of limit, and the structure. You need to be able to see patterns in relation to the board, for your opponents actions and your future responses to them on all rounds. Every street and every bet matters, it is often a case of trying to extract one more bet when you're winning and often more importantly losing one bet less when behind.

Yeah, I like the part about telling your opponent a story about your hand, (which might not be completely true ) and then changing it, so you get an extra BB, or sometimes an extra SB and an extra BB out of him).

I knew someone would say this better than I could.

I'm in my 3rd year of regular play: Here are the reasons I was originally attracted to and have for the most part, stayed with limit:

1) I did not like the idea of sitting down to my first hand, having good play mandate that I go all-in and if I am there to gamble, what happens if a lose? Bad beats happen. They can knock me off the table at NL but just dent me at LHE.

2) I am better with numbers than people.
3) I play more hands in LHE than NL. And even playing 2+2 LHE style, we still play fewer hands than anyone else at the table. NL can be VERY boring with weak cards.
4) I can play longer sessions at LHE than NL. (I also used to love playing $2 blackjack all night, until the casinos ruined the game.)
5) Now, I have much more experience and confidence at LHE than NL, but am taking stabs at NL.
6) I'm not in it for the $ alone. However, I do want a cheap, preferably profitable hobby.

I think that's got it. I am adding to my mix of games. I've added O/8 within the last year and I plan to add Stud in later this year. Mixing it up is good for the brain and makes finding that heavenly stupid loose passive table that much easier.

I agree with a lot already said.
Unless you can play a super LAG style well in NL which I can't, you have to play a trapping style where you basically wait to hit a huge hand and win big pots.
This can be very boring and you play very few hands.

Also, after trying and still playing both I've found I do better and generally enjoy limit more. I truely think some are better made for NL and some for limit. I'm sure some can do both equally but I would guess most are better at one or the other.

You can't get stacked with a good hand in Limit you can just call down. You can recover from a bad decision and lose only a few bets not your whole stack.

I like limit better than NL because the satisfaction from stacking someone just isn't the same as watching them slowly lose there stack over the course of the night.

Limit has higher variance in regards to swings.

2bb/100 is an average attainable winrate with solid play. it doesn't mean it's the best winrate possible.

[/ QUOTE ]

1. happy brithday
2. 2bb/100 is excellent, not average. in a horse game its prob average. 3 years ago its prob average. but in todya's game, from what I hear cuz I don't play online often/at all, 2bb/100 would be crushing the game, no?

[/ QUOTE ]

i shouldn't have said average, just attainable.

but your point may be true given how little i play online also. fwiw, the last time i donked around FT 2/4-5/10 i still thought they were very beatable games. you just have to make a couple adjustments. i became a calling station/showdown monkey.

it seemed to me by far, playing tight to start and then reverting to a raising and betting regardless of the board/holecards seems to be the most prevalent strategy used by the most online limit players at those stakes. most aren't skilled to the point that they are bluffing with the perfect frequency to make my calling-station strategy ineffective. so i assumed the games were still beatable at a reasonable click.

on a side note, is it easier to multitable LHE than NL? i think it is, but most of my NL experience(and by most i mean 99%)is live.
