Whoops looked at their schedule, saw the Yankees and assumed incorrectly.

Well the Mets play the Yankees every year 6 times because of the inter-league rivalry thing they have set up.

This year the Mets will play the Cardinals, Dodgers, Padres, Yankees, Twins, A's and Tigers. First time in history a team will face all of the previous season's playoff squads during the regular season.

This thread has gotten off topic...

OP,
It's only been 3 weeks, but a lot of NL teams look a bit improved this year. I don't think the AL will totally dominate in Inter-League again this year like last year, but the AL is still the better league and will wind up with the better Inter-League record.

Well, maybe the AL is better, but the Mets are the best team in baseball, period. Prospectus agrees with me, and it's just very obvious watching the games, looking at the pythagorean records, and looking at the box scores and peripheral stats of the players.

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL. They're playing completely different teams. If the Mets played a bunch of high school teams and then a bunch of Major League teams, wouldn't you expect the pythag records and box scores to suggest they were a better team against the high school teams? Your argument doesn't make any sense.

I don't know how the OP can tell how well the NL will do against the AL yet seeing that there hasn't been 1 interleague series yet.

If we go through the "contenders."
NL-

NYM are as good as last year maybe slightly better.
Atl is better.
St.Louis wasn't that good last year in the regular season and I think with their changes they are easily worse right now.
Milwaukee-Better than last yera.
Cincy-Same
Houston-Worse.
LAD-Better.
SD-Same
SF-Better

AL

Boston-Better
NYY-Worse right now without their starting Pitchers, O is probally better, relief isn't that great.
Detroit-Worse.
Minne-Worse so far.
CHSOX-Better
Cleveland-Better.
Oakland-Slightly better, good pitching staff.
LAA-Probally worse.

I think some of the middling teams have last year are better in the NL and I think they have more contenders for the title than last year. I think as a whole there are more good teams in the AL than the NL but the NL has some really good teams atleast so far in the season. Will have to see how the Braves middle relief and closers hold up. We will have to see how the Mets starters do the rest of the year. Will have to see if Milwaukee can keep up their record. Will have to see a lot of things. We are only 1/8th of the way through the season. Conclusions are hard to come by right now.

My subjective impression of the NL: there are a handful of very good teams and a greater number of really pathetic teams.

My subjective impression of the AL is that there are fewer really bad teams, and not as much separation between the contenders and rest of the pack.

None of this says anything, I think, as to which league is better.

dynamic offense, poor pitching. their bullpen is horrible.

dangerous team to play, no doubt, but i dont think there's any division in baseball they'd be a contender in.

Also if you want to argue that the Mets are the best team in baseball, therefore NL>AL.
Than the NL East is the best division in baseball.

Capone,
Your better worst system is really flawed.
1. Small sample sizes.
2. You are not accounting for how much teams get better or worse or where they started from.

Edit: I just skimmed through this thread so what I said might be covered. Namely the last bit of capone's post.

Read my last statement. That's exactly what I said, the season is only 1/8th done and we can't garner much. From what we've seen so far these seem to be simple conclusions, not very good ones.

It is dubious, in my opinion, to use interleague records to determine which league is superior to the other. The advantage the AL teams have in AL parks is much greater than the advantage the NL teams have in NL parks.
