Because, first, guy behind might fold if faced with 3 cold.

Except he'd only face 2-cold and he will call.

Second, if he doesn't fold now, he'll likely just c/call our turn bet. By waiting for the turn, we're expecting to gain another SB from raising then.

As for this, the guy you're trying to keep in this hand is sandwiched between you and the PFR and flop aggressor, making it difficult to trap him. In fact, I don't see a really good way to trap him for an additional BB on the turn, but I definately want a raise going in on the turn.

At any rate, I think you just miss too much value those times player behind would call "2-cold" or button would even cap it for you with an over pair.

I seriously think it's a consequence of the changed nature of the online game that is making people want to slowplay this hand. OP didn't say too much about his game, but if it's like the 6/12 at my B&M, there's no reason to slow play a hand like this when people will at worst call, at best raise.

For the flop, I forget why, but I got the HUGE feeling he checks through the flop like never -- I'm not exactly sure, but maybe with the quickness and confidence of PFR and also possibly holding chips ready to dump into the pot (which is what a lot of people were doing).

I wasn't intending to slowplay. I was EXTREMELY surprised to see guy behind bet there, I was very much expecting him to drop from the hand to any bet, and so I didn't want it to be bet/raise and just HU with the PFR. Calling 2 cold for everyone else is MUCH more intimidating live -- going 3 bets is so rare, on any street.

The only hand that went 3bets on the flop was when I got C/R by the PFR (who was tilting in this hand and was stuck like over a rack) with ATs and Txx rainbow flop, and capped turn when some other guy had QQ turned a set vs my nut straight.

---

thinking on flop is button bets, some calls, I raise, button goes 3, I cap. I think its much more unlikely that I bet he raises I go 3 and he caps (I guess I forget to mention that I'm up like 3 racks and am almost out of chip stacking room by this point).

After the semi-decent player bets, button raises, if I 3bet there, it kills action -- they'll notice check-3bet easily.

On the turn, I was planning to donk pretty much any turn, and hope for a raise by trapping guy in the middle. If I donk the 8 though, I kill my action easily. I also know at this point that middle guy is pretty much folding for any bet. He knows I wouldn't call there with garbage, and he's also kinda been weaktight and running bad, and I think new guy has a overpair there always given the way it played out.
