It's a way of announcing "I win". You can believe the tipper or not. The rare times I do it, I have a lock.
I have never seen a tipper lose the pot and then ask for the tip back.

I don't understand why you'd show that you have that much confidence in your hand. The only reason I would do it is to make it seem like my hand was strong if I was bluffing. I guess? No, you know what, I'd never do it.

Have you played live poker? In limit, one pair is basically the nuts.

This is pretty much stupid behavior and certainly not "cool" as others seem to think.

The only person who thinks it's cool is the person doing it.

The bad players will view you as a jerk, which you may not care about, but the result is that they may leave the game if they feel like you're showing them up which is obviously a bad result. They won't think it's cool.

Good players certainly won't think it's cool since you don't seem to care about losing extra bets on the hand if the action isn't complete. Further more, the better players may now come after you a bit more because you were such an annoying moron about tapping on the fish tank.

End result. Nobody thinks you're cool, but you. If that's your main motivation, then congratulations.

Now, if you're playing at a table with a bunch of your boys and just having a good time, sure, it might be fun, but basically it's just stupid behavior IMHO.

I have seen a modified version of this, which is more classless. It is when someone bets a scary river, the guy who has been leading the whole hands calls, the bettor turns over his hand, then before showing his hand, the caller throws a tip to the dealer, waits a few seconds, and turns over his cards.

Pretty much a slowroll. I have only seen this version, and it is probably all from the same person in my 8/16 game, not many people act that way.

I do this sometimes. Sometimes you just know your hand is good. It's fun.

[/ QUOTE ]

When my opponents do this, I just triple their toke before showdown, raise the river, then claim 3:1 "tip odds".

This douchebag was doing this in the 15/30 game we played a few months back at a caz here in canada. Lol the best was he did it in a hand where I had the winner. God that made my day.

Why do you care who someone gives their money too?
The 'tip in darker' might go home and donate to the Red Cross also, do you care?

Asking for a tip back would be dumb, even dumber would be the dealer giving it back.

My favorite is a nice player who twice has said, "Ramon, if I win this hand, I'll tip u half the pot."

He's said it several times, but it's only happened twice. Of course, now I know, he's got a gutshot draw.
