What game/limit do you play? I'll look for a guy with a funny accent at my 5/10NL table to drop a sup bro. I'm there almost every day.

[/ QUOTE ]

I plan to play on 5/10 too. How does the "No Max Buy-In" thing affect the game play? (I never played on any Uncapped games before). How's the game over there like? Any information would be highly appreciated

[/ QUOTE ]

Depends on several factors:

1. What the average stack size is,.
2. Whether you buy-in short or deep relative to the table average.
3. How good you are at short stack or deep stack poker.

Seriously... this game can play very deep at times, particularly Tues-Sat nights. Average stacks of $3k are not uncommon. Remember, 9 times out of 10 the 5/10 game at the Bike is the biggest game going, so it can easily play like a 10/20 game elsewhere if the stacks are deep enough. If there is more than one game going, the must move game is 7 times out of 10 going to be the better action game - the main game can get CRAZY deep for a 5/10 game some nights. I've seen 40k+ on the table before - probably as deep as a 5/10NL game gets.

I'd certainly recommend the hotel at the Commerce, even if you plan to play at the Bike. They're only a few miles apart if you plan to rent a car. However, if the idea of driving on the wrong side of the car and the road is unappealing to you, then the Ramada by the Bike is a clean, comfortable room. Noise can be an issue sometimes depending on room location.

Nightlife around ANY of the LA casinos is nonexistant. Public transportation is a joke. You'll want a car to explore the city or you'll be spending a lot of your time just playing cards.

Regardless, if you plan to bring along any sizeable amount of cash - don't leave it in your room! It'll get stolen. The Bike has plenty of safety deposit boxes available for a $100 refundable deposit. That's the way to go. (Commerce has them too but last I checked they don't have any open boxes they are willing to part with for a short term rental.)

Thanks for so much information. One thing that draws my attention is that my frined has lost his wallet during his stay @ Ramada. It actually scares me a bit when you say that too. I think I will rather accommodate in a hotel which I don't have to worry about anything. There is someone I coach who will take me to the casino everyday. Therefore, transportation isn't a big issue. Since I was a high stake Fixed Limit player online last year, I wouldn't mind playing some of that in LA too. In that case, which one (The Bike or Commerce) has softer Fixed Limit games running? $10/$20 or $20/$40 level preferred

[/ QUOTE ]

The Bike has 20/40 games going all the time - at least 1 table, usually 2. They jump from 8/16 to 20/40. They sometimes have higher limit mixed games going as well - up to 400/800. Those higher limit mixed games are hosted by Yosh Nakano and you can call the casino any time to see what games are going and at what limits. Just ask to speak to someone in the top section. How soft are they? I have no idea... I haven't played limit much in almost 2 years now.

Someone else can speak to Commerce as I'm not that familiar with their games.

No $10-20 at Commerce; they have $9-18 and $20-40. $20-40 games are usually very good; you get free food in the $20-40, you have to pay if you play $9-18.

I suggest you play a few days running at the Bike, then go to Commerce for a few days and see which place you prefer. There's more action at Commerce, but the Bike is a much more comfortable place to play.

Players bank is also an option if a safe deposit box isn't available.

Commerce 9/18 and Bike/Hawaiian Gardens 8/16 are very close to the same size game (in fact the total blinds are the same - the 9/18 has a $3 SB while the 8/16 has a $4 SB).

These days at both the Bike and Commerce you jump from the 9/18 or 8/16 to 20/40 (the 15/30 only goes once in a blue moon at the Commerce). Hawaiian Gardens, Hollywood Park and Hustler have 15/30 though, although 15/30 gets nittier over time being the smallest game in top section.

Also interesting at the Commerce is the death of the 6/12 limit holdem game. They have an ocean of 3/6 and 4/8 limit holdem games but the next jump is now to 9/18. I haven't seen a 6/12 game in months.

As I may already show that I ain't good at deep stack NL poker due to the lack of experience. I think I will just stick with 100BB, however, their no max Buy-In structure allows other players to take my whole stack with one hand or run a huge overbet bluff which I might not be able to call. Well, I think there is another strategy for this type of games, I might just need some time to adjust

Is the $20/$40 game easy to beat over there in your experience?

As an aging possibly senile mediocrity of a poker player no game seems that easy.

My take anyway:

The Bike usually having only two and sometimes three 20/40 limit holdem games can be very good or rather tough. When its good it can stay good for far longer than a Commerce game since the table change options are limited (i.e., a great 20/40 at the Commerce might attract table changes from the three to six other tables, "leveling it out" much sooner than the same limit game at the Bike). Conversely, a real bad game at the Commerce won't stay bad for long, the players will quickly change out into the many other games, some of which are bound to be better.

Note that at some of the other clubs (e.g., Hustler, Hollywood Park) they always keep on the must move (the Bike thankfully dropped this a while back). When this is the case the main game is often much worse (this seems especially true at the Hustler).
