In my opinion, if he called you, show your hand or muck it fast. If you called him, vice versa. The last one to bet/raise should be the first to show the cards (or muck before seeing their opponents cards*).

EDIT:
* - e.g. if you were bluffing and don't want to show your cards; not on your opponents word that he has you beat.

What I hate is when you make a real thin but good call and the better says "you win" and holds his hand over the muck waiting for me to show. Is it wrong to make him show his hand or muck before I show? I've had this happen a time or two on a 4 straight board or flush board when I made a good read but was still got beat.

IMHO If you bet or raise last, show your cards or put them in the muck.

Just my 2 cents

In most casinos, if someone ever uses the exact phrase "You win", you can throw your cards into the muck and the pot must be awarded to you, reguardless of wether he shows a hand that actually beats you. True story.

In "most" casinos? Not in many that I've played in. Just the other night, very first hand I'm dealt 22 and make a standard PF raise and get 1 caller. Flop is KJx. I cbet and get called. Turn is X. Both check. River is X. Both check and I say "you won" figuring no way does my 22 hold up and he shows AQ and I scoop.

You can say anything you want but cards speak as long as you table them.

The only drawback to asking to see another players cards is that you look like a nit, hold up the game, and piss off the fish.

when i first started playing live i just would table my hand if it went to showdown no matter what, espeicaly if it is a limit game because it is so much less of a creative game than NL. But as you get the feel for things you will usualy be able to tell if you are good before the cards are tabled, i just never insta muck, even if i am playing the board because if i ever muck the best hand over something stupid like that, i'll probably go on life tilt for the rest of the night

WRT to show/muck when I've caught smoene bluffing I treat thte fish and locals different. Fish/tourists who are just embarassed about bluffing I'll just show quick if they say 'good call' or whatever. Locals I respect/like (regardless of if they suck) same deal. Jackass locals no. Show or muck.
