Re: How much do you use amazon.com?
Only 2 so far in 2007. I discovered that I was getting a better deal many times from Barnes & Noble, so they have gotten the lion's share of my business this year. Had 15 Amazon orders in 2006.

prime sounds kinda scary for me because of amazon's pricing history: they apparently used to charge different customers different amounts for the same items. that was a while ago, but i still wouldn't put it past them to stick it to customers that are locked-in so to speak. [/ QUOTE ] btw, that is very standard in some other industries. 1 supermarket chain, for instance, will charge higher prices in a nice suburb than in a less nice town 10 miles away, and this has little to do with anything except getting the most $$ out of the people who have it. it's relatively sophisticated segmented marketing. edit: I see that article talks about it as well. "The problem with variable pricing based on profiles is, people are unwitting participants," said Robert Labatt, an analyst with Gartner Group." lol, in which other industries are people willing participants?! |

Re: How much do you use amazon.com?
151 orders. Half of them are more than one item. Is there somewhere they tally these numbers? I had to count the # of pages.

I've never been to amazon.com before. Who has time to read when there is work, poker, and fishing.

[/ QUOTE ] i don't think there's much equivalency there for online stores, though. with physical locations, nicer areas should at least have higher commercial costs. i've also noticed that they'll bump up the quality, even within the same company. the safeway on main street in dc ranch, for example, blows away the random ones i've been to in scottsdale. i thought the whole chain was a brightly-colored discount dump until i went to that one. |
