The floor ruled correctly here. Of course the context counts. Talking aloud is fairly common. Seems simple except we would all like to hear something bad happened to loudmouth-boy.

Next time just kick him in the nuts.

When a player makes a call, they should absolutely be obligated to place at least SOME chips into the pot in order to establish their action. ( this seems to be a point of contention in the 5/10-150 games at CAZ, a lot of players think they can simply say "call")

If ALL players understood that rule, there wouldnt be an issue. No chips in the pot, dont turn your cards over, AND... wait for the dealer to call for the hands, that is why they are there, to ensure the game is run correctly.

The call was correct.

But someone who mumbles isn't responsible for someone else making assumptions about what he says. When all you have is something verbal, tread carefully.

I was chatting tonight with a floor person who mentioned the biggest mess he's had to try to clean up in the last couple weeks. Exactly because of this. He gets called over and people are screaming at each other.

Player1: "He said 'all-in'"
Player2: "NO I DID NOT!"
Player1: "Yes he did, and the dealer heard it and told me he was all-in".
Player3: "I didn't hear it"
Player4: "I heard something but I'm not sure what"
Floor: "Dealer, did he say 'all-in'?"
Dealer: "well...he said something."
Floor: "WHAT did he say?"
Dealer: "Well I guess I really didn't hear what he said, but I was watching his mouth and it kinda looked like he said 'all-in'".
Floor: "AUUUUUUUUUGH!!!!"
