so I can't see many hands that are going to give you much action if you bet. If you are in there with 22/33 it doesn't matter much if you bet now or the river because you are going to get it all in with them anyway.

I don't see 88/99 giving you much action here, the played it for set value and they didn't hit so you might get them to bet the flop but I don't think they are calling anything.

At least if we assume they are all decent players that is.

To be blunt, I think your assumptions are all wrong.

How is that? Remember we are assuming decent players.

A decent player with 99 will not fold this flop to a moderately sized bet. He might not bet, otoh.

The two key questions here are:

[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Are they more likely to bet (as bluff or because they have some value), or more likely to call your bet (because your image is loose/donkish)?
[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Are their hands likely to get better on the turn, or worse?

The answer to the first question is obviously the reason why it does indeed depend, but the second question gets easily overlooked. Yes, even air can get worse. If the turn is a Q, 88 will fold to your turn bet. If someone has a backdoor hearts flush on the flop, a club turn kills your action.

If your image is loose, and they are decent, you have to bet. And with this flop, considering what hands might pay you one street, you have to bet the flop.

I'm sorry this is just wrong. A bad player will raise, a worse player will just call. However, if it is checked to him an aggressive player might take a small stab at the pot.

So you would raise pre-flop then with 77 after two limpers?

I was talking about the opponents. And yes sometimes I do it. And saying its a bad play to call the flop with 99 is just stupid.
