Default Re: Why NL is killing limit.

1. Poker is boring to watch no matter what.

2. Probably, but why is this a good thing?

3. This is the only reason you gave that makes sense.

4. Not really. If you suck badly at poker you will have huge swings no matter the game. If you're an expert playing against retards you won't swing that much. As people play better the swings will be larger. Even terrible players accidentally make a lot of correct plays in limit due to pot sizes, terrible NL players can often play the hand wrong on every decision they have.

5. You must have never played a smallish live game filled with geezers spending all day folding. Most the regulars I play with live that are crazy and loose play limit, most the nits play NL. The same applies to midstakes online limit vs NL. If you open a dozen 1/2 NL games on Stars you will find a bunch of setmining nits. If you open up a dozen 5/10 LHE games you will find very few nits and a healthy amount of laggy spazzes whether good or bad.

6. Okay. This is almost the same as number 3.

In small-midstakes games NL is definitely king, but the biggest games are still limit.

Very simply: NL doesnt protect bad players from making huge mistakes. Limit does, to some extent. Bad players are playing NL. Hence, the best games should be the NL games. Why play limit and get a guy's money 1 BB at a time when at NL he will lose his whole roll eventually and possibly in one hand. There is no upper boundary on the -EV mistakes one can make in NL. In limit, a bad player can still make mistakes, but he has to make a bunch of them over and over for you to reap the same profit.

2.It's more skillful (if you don't know this, you don't understand where the skill in poker comes from). The fun of poker comes from its skill element, and even people who don't have much skill are choosing poker over slots for a reason.

agree (as in, i disagree)

NL has very low variance. and for those who say LHE=stats/NL=psychology, you have a very misguided understanding of NL. probability is extremely important at all times...
