cliff notes: sushi chef asked us if we wanted "somethign special". we thought we were getting comped. we got charged for it, but they tried to hide it on the check by lumping it with all the other sushi. wtf????

[/ QUOTE ]

Just because other Sushi places do "something special" as a comp, doesn't mean this place will. Should of asked is this "something special" was going to be a comp, or would be part of the bill.

Still shady they lumped all the Sushi together, might be what they do.

I am pretty sure it is your right to have the check itemized.
So just go back and ask...politely!

I eat sushi regularly, and to the best of my knowledge the check is never itemized. Sometimes they attach the sushi-ordering sheet with prices, etc, written on it, but the check itself just has the final tally. Not scammed.

Yeah this is my experience as well. And not to sound un-PC, but if the guy doesn't speak english that well it's possible that he doesn't write it well enough to itemize (?) so I think this is probably more misunderstanding and less scamming.

stinky,

I've seen this plenty of times at sushi and dim sum, everything lumped together. Especially at smaller, more family joint type places.

Also, sushi for two of you is normally like $33 bucks together? WTF?

Seriously. I can go through $50 easily, and maybe double that if I am guzzling delicious Japanese beer

I live in Los Angeles. The more I think about it, the more sure I am that they never itemize. But, I'm always surprised by how much it costs, so maybe I'm getting scammed too.
