Default Re: So, uh, who\'s #1 in CBB?

based on what they've done on the court

1. Duke
2. UCONN
3. Texas
4. NOVA
5. Memphis

(Ohio State and Florida at 6 and 7)

But, if I had to rate teams based on their ability to win it all in April
1. UCONN
2. Duke
3. NOVA
4. Texas
5. Memphis

I will also pile on and say Gonzaga is an absolute joke (#17 in sagarin and #35 in sagarin predictor). I just hope the Illini get in their bracket as it will be weak by default.

Duke
Nova
UConn
Memphis
is how I would vote for it, but it will probably be:
Duke
UConn
Nova
Memphis

My top 5 goes like this:

1. Villanova(they still have #17Gtown on Sunday)
2. Duke
3. Mephis
4. UConn
5. Texas

I think both, Gonzaga and George Washington are over ranked. West Virginia should be swapped GW.

[/ QUOTE ]

I know you're thrilled right now but come on.

Villanova shot 9-19 from three for 47%. 7-9 in the second half. They are 39% for the year. And half of those attempts looked to be behind the NBA line.

They had 13 steals. They average 8.

Will Sheridan had been averaging 5 points and 6 rebounds a game. Last night he had season highs of 13 and 10.

A team playing out of their minds to squeak out a close win at home isn't grounds for turning the top five upside down.

I find this surprising Jack. There's no way you would put UCONN in front of Nova if this was CFB.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think its reasonable given each individual basketball game is less important than each football game.

Gonzaga is way too high. I like Morrison a lot, but they're not deep enough to avoid another first or second round upset. I hope I'm wrong.

[/ QUOTE ]

I always wonder what Gonzaga really needs to do. They beat every team they are supposed to. They have three losses @ Memphis, @ Washington and neutral court vs. UCONN in a game they should have won. In my mind rankings are how a team has handled their schedule. Not who is the better team. The tournament is there to gage who is better.

I think Illinois is better than Gonzaga. But, Illinois blew a game vs. Penn State and has not been playing well lately. So Gonzaga should have a higher ranking. They have beat all of the teams they should and have been rolling through the months of January and February.

I only bring this up because my rankings would look like this:

1. Duke
2. UCONN
3. Nova
4. Memphis
5. Texas
6. Gonzaga
7. Illinois
8. Tennesee
9. Ohio State
10. Pitt

Who I think will do well in the tournament looks a lot different.

There was no need to go into ignorant homerism to defend UConn's case.

Legitimate arguments place them just above Nova in the rankings. Saying stupid ass [censored] like "Nova played out of their minds to squeak by UConn" just makes it look like you're making excuses.

Right off the bat. True.

Ok...an above average night on both parts.

Will Sheridan also had a season high 40 Minutes. He averages 26.2. So not really completely off the mark. He was the answer they put into the game plan, they usually play 1 big man and 4 guards, played 2 big men and 3 guards last night. Why don't we wait until Sunday. I'll concede that right now, Duke probably is #1 and Nova is 2 or 3 with UConn in the other spot. But a Nova win over Gtown on Sunday, I do not see it being unrealistic that they get the #1 spot in the polls. Fair?
